Astragalus (Bay Chi)
Botanical Name:   Astragalus Membranaceus
Astragalus Facts

Astragalus is used in China, Japan and by Oriental herbalists for disease treatment and
prevention and as a health tonic for a strong immune system. The root of Astragalus, a four to seven year old, yellow colored, dried root collected in the spring, is used medicinally for its health-promoting immunity effects. It contains numerous components including flavonoids, polysaccharides, triterpene glycosides, amino acids and trace minerals.

How Astragalus Works

Astragalus works as a tonic to enhance health, improve disease resistance and acts as an
antioxidant to combat free radicals. It has antiviral and antibiotic properties helpful for respiratory infections. Astragalus can widen the blood vessels and increase blood flow, to help lower blood pressure and eliminate excess water weight. It appears to restore T-cell (type of white blood cell) counts to relatively normal ranges in some cancer patients.
